The Coca-Cola press office was celebrating today after parachuting an apparently unspoiled press release straight onto the homepage of Media Guardian.
The article expounds on a new ad campaign for Powerade that features a shirtless Wayne Rooney, in which his performance appears to have been fuelled by the sports drink.
The original press release from Coca-Cola can be found here, and the consequent MG piece here. Media Guardian, usually peerless in its excellence, seems to have had a rare fit of churnal-itis. Still, given the impending voluntary redundancies from MG, including the brilliant Stephen Brook, Media Bastard sympathises.
The piece might have slipped under Media Bastard’s radar entirely, save for the following quote, attributed to a Mr Wayne Rooney: “Hydration tools such as Powerade are a vital part of my kit bag and they really help me to keep up performance levels, whether in training or on matches.”
The Manchester United star, it appears, is not just a powerful finisher – apparently he’s a pretty nifty marketeer too.
